HI eveyone im a 29 year old female who lets face is started my recent weightless journey at my biggest ever weight and completely and utterly unfit. This isn’t a success or failure story it is simply my story of my battle with my weight and taking control of the situation.
I plan on being frank and open about my failures and celebrate at the top of my lungs my success and i hope over time this will give others the encouragement to simply get up and give it ago.
7 weeks ago i was your average pretty lazy overweight female, working in childcare i spent most of my day with small children running me ragged working with a team of fantastic ladies. When the big boss started attending boot camp we all took notice of how we suddenly dropped weight and started looking kinda buff (can’t believe I’m using that work in relation to the boss man but its kinda true haha) When the offer came from the boss’s that if we also wanted to attend boot camp they would pay half everyone sort of jumped in, it was a lot of money but the savings were really going to help so with lots of encouragement from my fellow workers i decided to join the fun.
Now i have to confess the idea of boot camp was a scary one and i wasn’t sure if it was going to be for me but it i assumed i wasn’t going to be the only fat person there but then the day arrived monday after work heading down to mere park for the first session. i get there and suddenly realize what I’ve signed up for its not really called boot camp its called activ8 northlands extreme outdoor fitness program, then everyone started to arrive, these tiny fit looking people, no other big people like me i started to get really scared now what was i going to do. Then suddenly a man approached with a measuring tape and told me to move this way and that while he read out these giant scary numbers rather loudly i might add in front of everyone else. i was a little embarrassed but lets face it they can see clearly I’m no skinny chick, then the fitness test began, how many push ups can u do either properly or on your knees my result was as i expected, bloody terrible i could only do 1 push up on my knees and then this horrible thing they called a prone hold yeah i could do 25 secs of that also not a good score. A bit later in the session they mentioned we was going to do a run test..
this is the point i stopped and thought about jumping in my car and driving away and quitting. I don’t run its not that i don’t want to but my body just isn’t designed to do it so after a walk down to the bridge we were told where to go and off i went i ran for exactly 45 secs then thought well I’m going to complete it its the least i can do so i started walking and walking up the mountain side till i found the trainer at the tree turned round went back as instructed. then got back to the trainer at the bridge with a great work now again.
what did they mean again I’m dead already its torture i tell you. Once that was done it was a nice long walk back up to the park, a cool down and yay it was over i had survived my first session.
guess what happened next day, every muscle in my body that i had never used suddenly started screaming. but the fact remained i had done it and survived so my goal was set survive the next 6 weeks.
ok so i have to confess, some time has passed since i started my little journey into taking control of my bodies future and i have successfully completed my 6 week program with activ8 and let me tell you i didn’t think id complete it without the support of my family, friends, trainers and most of all my work mates, most survived with me we lost one who just wasn’t enjoying it but as the weeks passed and the activities became harder and my muscles slowly started reacting. Stranger still i have developed a liking for work outs, me and running will never be friends but the feel the burn sessions and circuit training were starting to rub off on me. At the end of the 6 weeks we were remeasured and redid the fitness test and i was really impressed with myself even after doing the fitness test, i went from my 1 push up to 25 and from my 25secs of prone hold to 1 min so yay me. Then a few days later we got our measurement and run results back and i lost a total of 24 cm over my body, cut 3 mins off my run time and heres the best bit 6% body fat has gone away so it was time to celebrate and how does any girl celebrate i got a new dress and i look wonderful in it. and heres another odd thing i did i signed up for the three week xmas boot camp. I swear i must be crazy but i finally feel like I’m gaining some control, the scales don’t exactly agree with me but the clothes are shifting along with my shape. so here is to the next three weeks of getting in shape and ill attempt to do daily comments on how my days go. wish me luck….
